The First Battle of Morn (originally published 1988) Science Fiction Fantasy
“The fast moving interesting plot of this science fantasy carries the sympathetic young hero Torin away…from the sinister Teachers who rule the planet Morn. The story is exciting, gripping and vividly written.” School Library Journal, November 1988 Starred Review
“There is a powerful imagination at work here, and both the topic and the field are popular.” Kirkus Reviews, November 1988
At first glance this is standard YA fantasy fare, and it will somewhat live up to that expectation. But past that, its really a great story. The characters are quite believable, and the writing style has a truly unique flavor, like the fudge ribbon in really good fudge ripple ice cream. .... My only regret is that Ms Moulton never wrote anything else. First battle is a truly illuminary first novel and should have been announcing a stunningly original new voice in fantasy literature. Oh Debra Moulton, where are you now? February 9, 2004 (internet review) Children of Time (originally published 1989) Science Fiction Fantasy “As in her debut novel, “The First Battle of Morn”, Moulton’s vivid imagination has produced a complex and believable society in which people are in conflict not only with themselves but with their future as well.” Publishers Weekly, November 1989
“This is a fast-moving tale which presents some frightening possibilities for the future that even reluctant readers might want to consider.” School Library Journal, December 1989
“An imaginatively crafted, exciting tale, full of fantastic adventure.” Booklist, November 1989 Summer Girl (originally published 1992) Contemporary “An engrossing read that offers strong characters and real values.” Kirkus Reviews, April 1992
“The book is well written with a lot to say” School Library Journal, March 1992
“Middle Graders who may be experiencing troubles of their own will find this book a reassuring testimonial that wounds eventually heal and that life does go on even after the darkest of storms” Publishers Weekly, January 1992 |
